Beautiful Funday

It was a beautiful Sunday yesterday, which started well and ended “mellow”.

I can’t say that any thing exceptional happened but I somehow feel that this was a day well spent!

There were new faces (yaay) at the Sunday service, lots of old faces, and I also missed a number of familar faces, like Mama (who is once again hospitalized) and Anna, Pauline and Christine.

I was happy with my preaching, and thought it was tighter than the last one. I just delivered two points, continuing with my general theme on “Knowing God, and hearing God”. Well, I have done my part as well as I could, honestly, the rest is up to Him, and therefore I am contented. As I said, I really hope that He will show up, to each one of us individually and every time the fellowship meets. Speak, give us a demonstration of Your power, and leave a tangible and lasting “God impression” upon us.

Somehow or other, I have to introduce some of the closeness or intimacy that we have experienced in our small group into the Sunday meetings. I miss so much the sharing of the “praise reports” and the praying for each other. It is quite precious, I think, when people trust each other enough to take off masks, drop their guard, and tell about the current stuff (say challenges) they are facing in their daily lives. But of course, that’s why we have small groups. (And I must really encourage the Young Professionals to restart their meetings.) Still, I treasure the way God had worked to give us such incredible favor and grace, over and over again as we prayed for one another. So I really wish that we can do some thing creative, and make space/time for sharing and ministry. I want to introduce every vistor to God’s presence, power and favor. So Lord, do show up, and please do your stuff!

I managed a short nap and then got a call from Dave Johnson visiting from Chang Mai, who wanted company. So the night ended late for us, and there was time for dinner, catching up (with HBO in the background, a movie with Tom Cruise as the baddie!) We shared a nice bottle of Moulin A Vent (George Duboeuf 2004). That’s what stimulated the mellow feelings.

At some point I felt we were two old fools for Christ, but Dave cheered me up when I fould out that even at his 57 years, he was able to pick up new drum techniques and improve on his playing in the last year. Talk about old dogs and new tricks. Dave’s dream is to be lead singer and drummer in a rock band, and of course a church planter. Dave saw through my veiled attempts to woo him back to Singapore to help me with the work at NLV. In each other we recognize complimentary giftings and roles. What an asset he will be if he would come to serve with me as he did with Stuart. And so the funday ended on this note of hope.
