Welcome to NLV

Cool. Actually the signboard over the door to the new premises is a graphic image digitically superimposed!

We just got a quotation from a contractor and I nearly fell off the chair. Susan and Alice were more composed because the chap is known to be reliable. I called Robert, my old contractor who did the Stewardship offices at Robertson Walk for me. Unfortunately his father-in-law is ill and he may not be free to come and measure to give me an alternative quote until early next week.

Decent carpeting that will provide sound proofing is critical and therefore represents a major unavoidable cost element. Chairs for the service is another. For furnishing, it’s off to Ikea. This is for the area in which we will do small group. Tastefully choosen colors (say a fresh coat of paint) will complete the picture. The old staircase carpeting will have to do, but it still has to be professionally cleaned because it’s really very dirty. Oh yes, real sign boards too!

Tomorrow will be the “last time” we hold Sunday Services at the Roxy Grand Mercure Hotel. We’ve not been there that long (only since May 2005) for me to say that “I’ll miss it”. But it has served us well.

I am excited about the move, the prospect of not lugging the musical equipment and the terribly heavy speaker to and fro. I truly hope that we can make it a place where people will come to hang out. Even having said that, I realize that there is more to it than just making it homey and comfortable. I hope that we can be creative and have fun about the kind of stuff that gets done. I suppose that depends on everyone. “Pastor’s leadership” will get you that far. I do invite the Holy Spirit to work in a manner that will enable what I hope for, to happen.

I have put togather a flyer that we can give to people to invite them to visit. Here it is.

On Thursday when I did my medical check up (and had blood drawn for tests) I handed out flyers to two nurses and doctor. Complete strangers, since Dr. Waller was not there. It felt right. I think that instead of putting them in mail boxes as in my original idea, I will give them to people that I happen to actually meet. That way when they turn up, they will have already met the pastor.

We bid everyone a warm welcome to NLV. That reminds me. I better update the website page on our church meetings.

PS. After this, I go to start to put my sermon togather for tomorrow. Inspiritation and power, Lord!!!
